    The United States has raised concerns with China about the deployment of weapons in the South China Sea and there will be short-term and long-term consequences, the White House said Thursday.

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - China has deployed anti-ship cruise missiles and surface-to-air missile systems in three of its bases in the South China Sea, the US-based network CNBC reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with US intelligence reports.

    Asked about the report, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a routine press briefing: "We are fully aware of China's armament in the South China Sea. 

    We put our concerns directly with the Chinese about this and there will be short and long-term consequences. "
