Press reports revealed that the White House is reviewing a plan to help the Iranian people get rid of the ruling authoritarian regime, through steps focused on the political side; but does not rule out the military option.

The Iranians are already suffering from a stifling grip on the regime, which is exploiting the country's resources to fund its armed groups across the region, as well as deadly economic crises, which are becoming increasingly harsh as the United States seeks more sanctions against Tehran.

The plan was drawn up by the SSG, a national security think tank with close ties to senior White House national security officials, including national security adviser John Bolton.

According to Sky News, the plan aims to reshape long-term US foreign policy toward Iran by emphasizing a clear policy of regime change, something the administration of former US President Barack Obama opposed when Iran's popular protests swept in 2009.

The plan explained that Trump Not focusing on military intervention, but on a series of steps to encourage Iranians increasingly angry with the ruling regime because of its massive investment in military adventures throughout the region.

"Iran's ordinary people are suffering in the midst of economic stagnation, while the regime is shipping its wealth abroad to its expansionist wars, to fill the bank accounts of Mullah and the leaders of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, which has sparked protests throughout the country in recent months," the plan said.

With regard to the nuclear deal with Iran, a source close to the White House, who carried out the plan, said the nuclear agreement "strengthened the grip of the Iranian regime on power, and prevent the United States from provoking regime change," according to the Washington Post Free Bikin.

"The nuclear agreement destroyed the global consensus against Iran before, everyone knew the dangers of playing with the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism," said the source, who declined to be identified. Trump, Bolton and Mike Pompeo are now working to bring this consensus back to its proper place. "

Bolton "understands the danger of Iran strongly, and knows that its behavior will not change fundamentally until the revolutionary regime disappears. All options are on the table if Israel is attacked. "

The sources, who spoke with the group that drafted the plan, spoke of the importance of many ethnic and religious minorities in Iran.

More than a third of Iran's population is minority, many of whom are already seeking independence. US support for these movements, openly and privately, can force the regime to focus attention on it and limit its ability to carry out other malicious activities.

The plan added that US policy towards Iran has failed to support opponents seeking change and should be a formal policy; military action should be expected if other measures fail.

She pointed out that Washington should pose a real military threat to Iran, if the latter carried out attacks against Israel or US forces, "explaining that although the military option is subtracted, it does not mean a large invasion, long-term or high-cost.

For his part, a national security official refused to comment on the plan, adding: «Our policy is to change the behavior of the Iranian regime, which works to destabilize the region and support terrorism», adding that the White House reviews several plans and proposals from different organizations, «Does not mean in any way to adopt the position of that paper».
