The Norwegian Government of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has provided $ 9 million in a partnership agreement to support stabilization and recovery efforts for Iraq's post-conflict phase.
A UNAMI mission statement in Iraq said: The grant funds from the Government of Norway will be allocated through the UNDP's program for the restoration of stability of liberated areas, which funds quick-track initiatives for liberated areas from a controlled control.
He added: This is the tenth contribution of the Norwegian government to the program for the restoration of stability of liberated areas since 2015, bringing the total contribution to 45 million US dollars.
Norway is the seventh largest contributor out of 27 donors to fund the stabilization program for liberated areas.
Building on the priorities set by the Government of Iraq and local authorities, the Stabilization Program for liberated areas helps to quickly repair basic infrastructure, enhancing local government capacity and providing short-term employment opportunities.
"Our priority now is to focus on the regions that have been occupied for a period of occupation and the areas that were finally liberated," the statement quoted UNDP Resident Representative Zainah Ali Ahmed as saying.
"These areas have the lowest proportion of returnees, and through the stabilization efforts of UNDP and partners, we are working hard to bring the displaced back to their homes. This generous contribution from the Government of Norway is very important in helping us achieve this important goal. "
Zina Ahmed expressed her gratitude to the Norwegian government for all support and to reaffirm its commitment not only to stability in Iraq but also to ensure the long-term prosperity of the Iraqi people. "
"At the request of the Government of Iraq, UNDP established a program to restore stability to liberated areas in June 2015 to facilitate the return of displaced Iraqis and lay the foundation for reconstruction and recovery and protection against the resurgence of violence, through the repair of basic infrastructure and the restoration of basic services.
The UNDP's Reconstruction Program for Restored Areas implemented more than 2,500 projects in key areas of Anbar, Salahaddin, Diyala, Kirkuk and Nineveh, with another 600 projects being developed pending additional funding.
