said US President, Donald Trump, he does not think of imposing new fees on cars and spare parts imported from Japan at the moment, referring to the initial agreement with Tokyo this week.
"One of the reasons for excluding the imposition of duties on Japanese cars is that we have reached an agreement," he said at a press conference on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Biarritz, France. But we are not studying it now, we just want fair treatment. "
The threat of new tariffs on imported cars and parts has cast a shadow over the automobile industry and key US trading partners since the US Commerce Department reported in February that these imports are a threat to US national security, Bloomberg news agency reported.
In May, Trump backed the conclusions, but postponed the imposition of new duties on the sector until mid-November, to allow the United States to reach trade agreements with Japan and the European Union.
Trump said earlier that there would be no change in US tariffs on Japanese cars after he and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced an agreement in principle earlier this week.
