The Independent High Electoral Commission announced, on Thursday, that the lists of candidates for the provinces that were published on social networking sites are not official, as they have not yet been approved by the Board of Commissioners.
"The number of women who applied for candidacy reached 963 women, but these numbers are subject to decrease according to the eligibility of the applicants, whether men or women," UNHCR spokeswoman Jumana Al-Ghalai said in a radio interview followed by Mawazine News.
She pointed out that "the names of candidates for the elections are checked by the national office in the Candidate Affairs Division, as well as verifying that the names of their supporters are not repeated, then they are sent to the Criminal Evidence, Integrity, Accountability and Justice Commission and the Ministry of Higher Education and after 15 days they are approved.
