Iran and Iraq have signed new energy deals that will see the countries taking their cooperation to new levels. Through one of the deals it has been concluded that Iran will supply natural gas to Iraq which will bring the sanctions-hit Tehran $3.7 billion.

Another deal has been sealed too, which illustrates that Iranian oil firms will start developing shared oil fields between the countries. Oil fields straddling the international borders are estimated to hold billions of barrels of proven reserves.

Some giant Iraqi fields like Majnoon with estimated proven reserves of up to 30 billion barrels extend deep into Iranian territory. Gas pipelines within the countries will be constructed that will link Iranian gas fields to two major power stations close to Baghdad.
25 million cubic meters a day of natural gas to Iraq at a cost of $10 per day will be supplied by Iran. New gas pipeline building project is on the way of linking these two energy oil and natural gas enriched nations. On completion, expected in a few months, Iran will be supplying another 20 million cubic meters of natural gas to Iraq to feed its power plants in the south.
