[ltr][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Protection of Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has detained a group of media professionals and prevented them from attending a conference he attended today in Najaf province, the Press Freedom Association of Iraq revealed Sunday.
"A force from the protection of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi detained a number of media cadres while covering his visit to Najaf province on Sunday after being prevented from entering the prime minister's press conference," the statement said.
"A group of channel cadres were detained in one of the Palace of Culture rooms by the protection of the prime minister after they were prevented from entering his press conference in Najaf and damaged their equipment and cameras," the coordinator of the Association for the Defense of Press Freedom in Iraq told the statement. Correspondent Essam al - Fattalawi and cameraman Walid Khaled, NRT Arab Correspondent correspondent Hossam al - Kaabi and photographers Jassem al - Ameri and Osa Al - Absawi, a correspondent here in Baghdad Hassanin Rafi and correspondent of the Asian satellite Haidar Saleh.
He pointed out that "the protection of Prime Minister Haider al-Abbadi used to attack a group of media cadres, especially during his visit to the provinces of Babylon and Maysan and Kut, while Abadi had claimed that the press in Iraq are free and international praise."
"The press freedom association in Iraq condemns the detention of the Prime Minister for media cadres and obstructs its work. It calls on the prime minister to open a direct and immediate investigation with the elements of his protection who attacked him as a constitutional violation. Iraq ". Finished
