A victim of the al-Baghdadi raid: The attack was carried out without the knowledge of the local authorities

    Translated by Hamid Ahmed

An air strike early Saturday killed dozens of people when they targeted the cars of the crowd and the police in the area of al-Baghdadi.
It was not clear the truth of the raid or how it occurred, and the Iraqi authorities announced the opening of an investigation into the incident immediately. The wounded included the director of al-Baghdadi district and the police chief.
"Eight people were killed and 20 wounded during an Iraqi army operation on Saturday accompanied by US air strikes," the head of Baghdad's wounded Baghdad district told CNN.
"A security guard and a civilian were killed along with six other police officers after members of the Iraqi army and a special police force raided a house," said Sherbil al-Obeidi, director of the al-Obeidi district in Anbar province, adding that the security guard and the civilian were killed during the raid.
The Iraqi Joint Operations Command said in a statement that Iraqi forces were pursuing a terrorist leader. According to the mayor, a force of local police and tribal police rushed to the theater in the belief that the Iraqi forces that raided the house may be armed men disguised as Iraqi forces.
It is worth mentioning that the armed militants are known to launch a lot of attacks on Iraqi security forces and civilians and ambushed them by denying that they are from the official forces.
"After the forces arrested the suspect and while conducting the inspection inside the house, they were attacked by a grenade from one of the neighboring houses, which necessitated a quick response and then the troops withdrew to their headquarters," the Joint Operations Command said.
The joint command said Iraqi forces on the ground called for air support when they saw police as "a group of gunmen."
Al-Ubaidi, the director of al-Nahiya, said that the air strikes targeted the assembly, killing six policemen and injuring 20 others, including security officers, district director and police chief.
"We demand that the Iraqi government conduct an investigation into this air strike and give an explanation of how such an operation would be carried out without the prior knowledge of the local authorities in the city," he said.
"The police officers who were killed in the air strike all fought armed men in the past," he said.
Colonel Ryan Dillon, spokesman for the International Coalition, said the incident was under investigation, but US aircraft had always provided support if a request was made by the Iraqi army.
A US military official told CNN they were still investigating whether there was an American aircraft in the area if the incident occurred.
Al-Baghdadi, 200 kilometers northwest of Baghdad, is the closest area to Assad's air base, where the US military is deploying its aircraft.
