Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki has expressed concern about the manipulation of the results of the parliamentary elections scheduled for next Saturday, warning at the same time of civil war in Iraq.
"Civil wars usually take place after the population census if the result does not satisfy the components, and a civil war occurs after the elections if the results are challenged," Maliki said in a television interview.
"I do not want a civil war, not a census, nor an election," he said. "We stress the need to give us 100 percent assurance that there will be no manipulation in the elections."
