    BAGHDAD - The Iraqi Central Bureau of Statistics said on Monday that the number of Iraqi people exceeded 38 million this year, pointing out that the population of Baghdad reached 8 million people, while the province of Muthanna was the least populated.
    The agency said in a new statistic, "The population of Iraq was 38 million and 124 thousand and 182 people according to population projections for 2018."
    He pointed out that "the number of males reached 19 million and 261 thousand and 253 people by 51%, while the number of females 18 million and 862 thousand and 929 people by 49% of the total population."
    The agency added that "the capital Baghdad was the highest governorates in the population, where it amounted to eight million and 126 thousand and 755 people by 21% of the total population of the provinces."
    He explained that "the number of males in Baghdad was four million and 123 thousand 626 people by 51% of the total population of the province, while the number of females four million and 123 thousand and 129 people by 49%."
    The agency pointed out that "Nineveh province ranked second after Baghdad in terms of population by 10% of the total population of the provinces, followed by Basra by 8%, while occupied the least populated Muthanna, where it reached 814 thousand and 371 people and by 2%.
    He pointed out that "the number of people under the age of 15 years amounted to 15 million and 428 thousand and 32 people, 45% of the total population of Iraq, the number of males, including seven million and 946 thousand and 952 people by 52%, while the number of females seven million and 481 thousand And 80 people at a rate of 48%.
    The Ministry of Planning said in June 2018 that the population of Iraq is increasing annually by 850 thousand to one million people, while expected to reach the population at the end of this year to 38 million people and 50 million people in 2030.
    Iraq's population in the 1979 census was 12 million, then rose to 16.3 million in 1987 and 22 million in 1997. 1
