US nominates an Iraqi military commander who participated in the Iran-Iraq war to the Ministry of Defense and the latter refuses

A source familiar with the offer of the US side the nomination of a senior officer in the Iraqi army for the post of defense minister in the new Iraqi government.
The source told The Twilight News that the Americans had offered to the corner of Mahdi Saleh al-Shakti, the post of defense minister in the Iraqi government, but he refused.
The source added that Shakti had already offered him the post after 2003, but he also refused to do so.
He explained that the new US offer was made through the US consulate in Arbil, while the previous offer was made by the US military.
Shakti was born in 1955 in Ninawa. He graduated from the 55th Military College and the 55th Army College. He participated in several battles during the Iran-Iraq war. He also commanded the 42nd Armored Brigade, the Chief of Staff of the 1st Infantry Division and the Commander of the Najaf Division.
Adel Abdul Mahdi was sworn in as the new prime minister after a heated debate between parties and blocs over appointments in the new cabinet cabinet.
In addition to Abdul Mahdi, 14 of the 22 ministers won parliamentary confidence, amid disagreements over sovereign ministries such as defense and interior.
According to the leaked list of ministers, Faleh al-Fayyad, interior minister and pilot pilot Faisal al-Jarba, were due to vote as defense minister.
According to Iraqi MPs, the objection to Jarba came as a result of his work as a special pilot for former regime president Saddam Hussein, said MP Alia Nassif.
The leaks that the most likely candidate for the post of defense minister is former Iraqi army officer Hashim Darraji, close to former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi.
After 2003, the Ministry of Defense took over a Sunni figure, while the interior went to a Shiite figure, as was the sharing of positions among the rest of the components.
