The Financial Times on Thursday quoted two unnamed sources as saying that US Trade Representative Robert Laetzer had announced that Washington had suspended a new package of tariffs on China as trade talks between the two countries resumed.
The remarks coincided with a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Thursday to resume talks between the two countries on outstanding trade issues, noting that the two sides were "in close contact" after a telephone conversation on November 1 between President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
On Wednesday, Reuters quoted three US government sources as saying that China had provided a written response to US demands for large-scale trade reforms.
President Trump and his Chinese counterpart are scheduled to meet later this month on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Argentina.
