Yesterday, Tuesday, a member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, MP Hadi Al-Salami, revealed that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani had taken three urgent decisions to block a path for wheat mafias in Iraq.
Al-Salami said, “We followed with interest the efforts of Representative Amir Al-Mamouri three days ago to uncover some of the secrets of wheat mafias in Iraq and his direct communication with Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani after monitoring the attempts of some corrupt people to re-market wheat that was distributed for agricultural purposes with the aim of earning money from the price difference.”
Al-Salami added, “His committee is following the matter with great interest, and there are three decisions issued by the Prime Minister to block the way for wheat mafias in Iraq, the most prominent of which is preventing the transport of wheat between governorates during the marketing season and tightening the procedures for its entry through the crossings, in addition to auditing all shipments and taking a series of measures.” We are firm against anyone who is proven to be marketing tainted wheat or referred to the Ministry of Commerce centers.”
Al-Salami pointed out that “there is a broad security movement in order to uncover the corruption mafias, and indeed there are clues, but their identity cannot be determined except by waiting for the results of investigations by the competent authorities, but it can be said that what was revealed is important and will strengthen the principle of combating corruption and stopping the waste of public money and tampering with the livelihood of the Iraqi people.” “.
The day before yesterday, a member of the House of Representatives, Amir Al-Mamouri, revealed the content of what he called “Plan B” to stop wheat mafias in Iraq.
Al-Maamouri said, “Wheat mafias make money from the Iraqi people’s livelihood amounting to hundreds of billions of dinars during the crop’s marketing seasons by circumventing and manipulating the marketing of spoiled wheat and other spoiled wheat to earn the difference in prices.”
He pointed out, “A new plan for reform will be adopted, represented by the formation of a supervisory committee with a high level of expertise, with parliamentary support, that will take samples from wheat trucks for examination in the laboratories of other ministries to determine the extent of violations.”
Al-Mamouri stressed that “the step comes to prevent any manipulation and monitor any violations,” pointing out that “any manipulation of the people’s livelihood will not be accompanied by any tolerance, and all violations are considered suspicions of corruption, and those involved will be held accountable according to the law.”
On (May 3, 2024), Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani issued 4 immediate measures, the most prominent of which were fogging the seed wheat by 100%, preventing the entry of dry and infected wheat into the silo in order to prevent trading in it, and seizing the fogging and dyed wheat when it is caught and considering it a crime and the seizure of public money. To whomever does this and transfer it to the competent courts.”
