    Economy News - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Planning clarified the mechanism for examining gold in local markets, and while it indicated that many companies submitted their bids to equip airports with modern devices, it confirmed that the devices will be in 4 airports.
Ministry spokesman, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, said: “There are procedures regarding examining gold at airports that have been implemented during the past months, represented by announcing the request for devices for examining and the names of precious gold and non-gold jewelry.”
He pointed out that "several specialized companies have submitted applications, and work is now underway to select appropriate bids, so that referrals can be made to the relevant company to equip the centers with sensitive devices."
Al-Hindawi added, "The places and offices for the work of the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control teams have been identified at the airports of Baghdad, Najaf Al-Ashraf, Basra, and Kirkuk," stressing that "the work will begin as soon as we are equipped with the equipment for the process of examining and weighing gold jewelry."
Regarding the legal procedures followed against those who sell counterfeit or tampered gold, he explained that “the standardization and quality control teams continue to follow up on gold affairs by granting licenses to goldsmiths, in addition to following up on gold in goldsmiths’ shops through continuous detection, as well as following up on the licenses granted.” .
He continued: "If unmarked gold jewelry is seized or unlicensed gold jewelry shops are seized, legal measures will be taken against the violators in this regard and referred to the courts."
He pointed out that "the legal measures against violators are withdrawing the license, closing the shop, and other severe legal measures. However, if the violation is minor, the jeweler may be alerted to that violation and the need to address it within a specific period of time. If he does not adhere to the warning, legal procedures will proceed against him." .
