Shafaq News / The Iraqi Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that its work was "not affected" by the conflict over the post of Minister of Defense.
"The work of the Ministry of Defense is not affected by the presence of the minister or his absence," ministry spokesman Tahseen al-Khafaji told Asharq Al-Awsat. "We have made a commitment that the ministry is proceeding according to the work assigned to it.
Khafaji added that "the occurrence of political crises on the post of Minister of Defense or others does not affect the work of the ministry at all, we are a military institution aimed at protecting the people and are not affected by political friction."
Parliamentary objections were the reason for the postponement of the vote on granting confidence to the rest of the members of the government formation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, and the most prominent of these ministries is the Ministry of Defense, which has seen doubts about the nomination of candidates for this sensitive ministry.
Adel Abdul Mahdi was sworn in as the new prime minister after a heated debate between parties and blocs over appointments in the new cabinet cabinet.
In addition to Abdul Mahdi, 14 of the 22 ministers received parliamentary confidence.
According to the leaked list of ministers, Faleh al-Fayyad, interior minister and pilot pilot Faisal al-Jarba, were due to vote as defense minister.
According to Iraqi MPs, the objection to Jarba came as a result of his work as a special pilot for former regime president Saddam Hussein, said MP Alia Nassif.
Tsaribat said that the most likely candidate for the post of defense minister is the former Iraqi army officer Hashim Darraji, but the latter was rejected by the blocks, and it came to talk about the submission of more than ten candidates for the Iraqi defense.
After 2003, the Ministry of Defense took over a Sunni figure, while the interior went to a Shiite figure, as was the sharing of positions among the rest of the components.
