    Baghdad: Hamza Mustafa
The talk of a "conspiracy" amid popular movement since last Tuesday to topple the regime dominated political discourse in Baghdad yesterday, while a senior official told Asharq Al-Awsat about the details of this "conspiracy" which he said the security services "alerted and thwarted."
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the authorities had "drawn up plot against the political system in parallel with the popular movement." He added that the authorities were aware of the presence of service and demand demonstrations that have been prepared since the ninth month, and that they will start in the tenth month, through unprecedented mobilization operations on social media sites, pointing out that «things quickly took another character represented by entering Organization in the form of individuals among the crowds of peaceful demonstrators with the aim of sabotage and tampering, including assault on security forces and demonstrators themselves in order to provide the necessary cover for this plot ».
The high-level official, that the plan «was to close the eight entrances to Baghdad and cut off the airport road, but the responsible authorities alerted to the matter and dealt with him and took control of the situation».
Asked if the use of excessive violence was the only way to eliminate the "conspiracy," the official replied: "The type of violence used by security forces has been opened to investigate the motives behind the use of this violence, but we are sure that a third party used trained snipers targeted "The security forces and the demonstrators, which caused all the casualties that occurred in the last five days."
The head of the Popular Mobilization Commission, Faleh al-Fayyad, said that the Hashd factions, mostly Shiite, some of them close to Iran, were ready to intervene to prevent any "coup or insurgency" in Iraq, should the government so request. "There are those who wanted to conspire against the stability and unity of Iraq," Fayyad told a news conference in Baghdad, stressing that the Hashd, working under an official framework, wanted to "drop corruption, not topple the regime," in response to protesters' slogans. Fayyad stressed «we know who is behind the demonstrations, and the scheme to overthrow the system failed», stressing that «there will be retribution for those who wanted to bad Iraq».
To that, the Iraqi Defense Minister Najah al-Shammari, yesterday, that the Iraqi forces will not tolerate those who want to cause riots and chaos. "The security situation throughout Iraq is good and Baghdad is very good. Our forces will not tolerate those who want to cause riots and chaos," Ashmari was quoted by the German Press Agency as saying. "They hold legitimate demands because we are one flesh and we do not allow attacks on them." He added «was directed to change the military leadership in Sadr City after an investigation and bring the defendants before the courts».
