An Iraqi official disclosed the main reason for raising trade exchange with Iran to 20 billion dollars annually.
Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran Saad Jawad Qandil said in a press statement that "trade exchange between Iraq and Iran at present amounts to 12 billion dollars annually and there is an agreement between the two countries to enhance cooperation and raise the level of trade exchange from this figure to 20 billion dollars."

"As for the most important obstacles, they are the unilateral economic sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran."
The statement stressed that "there is no time limit on the subject of raising trade exchange to 20 billion dollars and that the talks between the two countries are continuous and ongoing and trade dealings remain without dealing through the dollar and benefit from other currencies and other means of financial exchange."
