Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, stressed on Monday that the decision of the International Criminal Court to indict Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Minister of Defense is a historic and courageous position, stressing the importance of expediting the submission of a draft election law and resolving issues related to the electoral system.
In his speech, al-Maliki praised the decision of the International Criminal Court, saying: "This position is recorded for the court, and we call on international institutions to restore respect for international law and hold perpetrators of crimes accountable," noting that peoples, including the peoples of countries supporting the occupation, stand with the Palestinian cause.
Regarding the election law, al-Maliki called for "agreement to submit a draft election law and clarify its system, whether it is a single district or multiple districts, in addition to resolving the issue of early elections."
Al-Maliki stressed the need to determine the type of card used in the elections, whether it is a unified card or a biometric one, saying that "participation in the elections is a duty and a basic pillar for the stability of the state."
He also called on citizens to prepare for the elections by preparing the biometric card, calling on political blocs and the government to legislate laws supporting the electoral process, and urging the High Elections Commission to expedite the issuance of biometric cards to citizens.
