The High Commission for Human Rights has formed a committee to develop mechanisms for accepting people with disabilities into postgraduate studies.
The Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Commission, Sarmed Al-Badri, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The meeting in which the Commission participated and which was held by the Authority for People with Disabilities at the Ministry of Labor, recommended the establishment of the electronic platform (My Umbrella) for people with disabilities, and the formation of a committee between the Authority and the Ministry of Health to develop a new mechanism for applying for postgraduate studies and changing the disability percentages for those included to 60 percent instead of 50 percent, with a re-evaluation of applicants and conducting new tests on them.
He added that the meeting stressed, in the same context, the need to intensify the provision of services to people with disabilities in departments and hospitals, such as appointing sign language interpreters, providing logistical services that facilitate their movement, as well as opening institutes for people with disabilities in the governorates and continuing to support them humanly and logistically and providing health and medical services.
