"I think the pressure has escalated," Kubba said in an interview with NPR. "I think he will eventually take over a transition," he said.
He added, "Abdul Mahdi came to power a year ago because the Shiites were unable to agree among themselves on who should run the country so they found a compromise alternative, the current prime minister," noting that "what happened now that these young protesters are not part of any A political party or group and their demands are very simple and they undermine this balance and failed attempts to contain the demonstrations.
Kubba said that "the demands of the demonstrations have shifted from mere jobs and improved conditions to change the government and the Prime Minister," noting that "the demonstrators are now rushing more and look at the laws of elections and looking for even foreign influence in the country."
