US report: Finding an acceptable person for the post of Iraqi Prime Minister seems impossible

Shafaq News / The New York Times said on Saturday that the current crisis in Iraq is the most serious since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003, with a parliament unable to meet the demands of the protesters or limit Iranian influence.
The newspaper stated in a report prepared by its director of office in Baghdad, Alyssa Robin, that the Iraqi leaders are not prepared to deal with the current crisis, and there has not yet been any consensus on a plan to reform the government to meet the demands of the protesters.
The American newspaper indicates that the Iraqi parliament did not seriously study the proposed changes to the election law proposed by President Barham Saleh, which would reduce the influence of the parties and the corruption that they sponsor.
The Iraqi forces also failed to choose an alternative for resigned Prime Minister Adel Mahdi, despite the expiration of the deadline set by the Iraqi constitution for that, according to the newspaper.
"It is very difficult to find a person who is widely accepted by the demonstrators, and at the same time has political and party support that enables him to pass the transitional period," the newspaper quotes researcher for the International Crisis Group, Maria Fantaby, as saying.
But even if the political forces manage to choose an alternative to Abdul-Mahdi, that will hardly begin to meet part of the protesters' demands, according to the New York Times.
"Our goal is not the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi," said Mahdi, a university student from Maysan province who came to Baghdad to join the protests. "This will not make a difference, we all want them to leave."
But the Iraqi parliament is unlikely to adopt reforms that would end it, as demanded by protesters, who are unlikely to accept anything less.
"What the parties want is rejected by the Iraqi people, and what the people want is rejected by these parties," says Karim al-Nuri, the leader of the Badr Organization, which is close to Iran.
He added, "Therefore, there are two alternative solutions, either changing the Iraqi people, or changing some political class and making some changes in the political process."
But the American newspaper indicates that the Iraqi parliament also appears unwilling to find a way to limit Iranian influence.
She added that Iranian politicians and military personnel, including prominent figures such as Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Qods Force in the Revolutionary Guard, are moving in Baghdad to ensure that the candidate for prime minister is compatible with Iran.
"Finding an acceptable person from the Iraqi street, and by Shi’ite political parties and Iran seems extremely impossible," says Vantaby.
Since the approval of the Council of Representatives on the first of December of the current resignation of the government of Adel Abdul Mahdi, the Stock Exchange has started trading several names, some of which were serious, and others that were burned papers to exclude them.
However, three names were recently mentioned in the "auction", namely the Minister of Higher Education Qusay al-Suhail, the former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Muhammad Shi'a al-Sudani and the head of the National Intelligence Service Mustafa al-Kazemi.
