Hantash said in statements followed by / information /, that "the difficult security conditions and protests that [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has witnessed for several months have negatively affected economic cooperation with Jordan and led to the cessation of completing the procedures for extending the oil pipeline agreed between the two countries years ago."
He added, "The resigned Iraqi government is busy dealing with protests and arranging the country's internal conditions, which will delay the completion of the project to extend the oil pipeline that will transport Iraqi oil to Jordanian territory and export it through the Jordanian port of Aqaba, in the south of the country."
He pointed out that "the project is of great importance to the two countries and depends heavily on it to meet the Kingdom's needs of crude oil at lower costs than importing it by tankers, in addition to the expected returns through the export of Iraqi oil through the port of Aqaba."
The Jordanian Minister of Energy, Hala Zawati, stressed, in a previous statement, the importance of the project, which will transport about one million barrels of oil per day from the city of Basra for export via the port of Aqaba on the Red Sea.
The project will extend from Basra and branch to the oil refinery in the city of Zarqa, east of the capital Amman, during its passage in Jordan, to the port of Aqaba and from there to the global market.
On April 9, 2013, Jordan and Iraq signed a framework agreement to build a 1700 km pipeline to transport Iraqi crude oil from Basra to export terminals in the city of Aqaba at a cost of about $ 18 billion and a capacity of one million barrels per day.
The pipeline is supposed to transport crude oil from the giant Rumaila field in Basra (545 km south of Baghdad) to the export terminals at the Aqaba port (325 km south of Amman).
The project includes a 60 km sub-pipeline that reaches the Jordanian oil refinery in the city of Zarqa (20 km east of Amman), to continue extending after that to the export port in Aqaba, where the pipeline from Basra to Aqaba will transport more than two million barrels of oil per day.
The framework agreement also stipulated that the Iraqi side give priority to providing the Jordanian party with crude oil that passes through its territory for the purposes of local consumption, according to purchase contracts between the competent authorities in the two countries, and quantities and prices in contracts are specified during a later period.
Provides [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to Jordan is currently about 10 thousand barrels of crude oil tankers, accounting for 7% of the daily needs of Jordan 's oil. Ended / 25
