The United Nations in Iraq (UNAMI) condemned the targeting of protesters with hunting weapons in Tahrir Square and its surrounding areas in the center of the capital, Baghdad.
The mission said in a statement that it continues to follow and document the targeting of peaceful protesters with hunting rifles on the road linking the Tahrir and Al-Khalani areas in Baghdad on the evening of 14, 15, and 16 of February, which resulted in the injury of at least 50 people, as well as a number of security personnel injured by pellets of weapons Hunting, stones, or Molotov cocktails.

Blackshart called on the authorities to prevent the use of force and hold those responsible accountable, stressing that the continuing pattern of excessive use of force, with armed groups ambiguously identified and unclear loyalties, is a serious security concern that must be addressed urgently and decisively.
