{Baghdad: Al Furat News} A member of the Commission for Human Rights revealed the number of assassination attempts that targeted activists in the demonstrations taking place in the country since last October.
Ali al-Bayati said in a press statement, "The total assassination attempts against activists, journalists and supporters of the protest amounted to 54 cases, in which 26 activists were killed, and the rest survived a certain death."
Al-Bayati believes that "the government is not serious in dealing with this serious matter, despite the committees that constitute it and the statements it issued in vain, and it has not played its role in protecting the demonstrators and arresting the vandal parties inside and outside the demonstrations."
He added, "The government's inability to protect people does not in any way lead to calm things down, and with the perpetrators not held accountable, things will remain open to all possibilities."
