Ministry of Planning: Building and construction projects in the public sector decline by 3.20%

The Ministry of Planning announced, on Wednesday, that the number of construction projects for building and construction projects in the public sector decreased by 3.20% during the year 2020, noting that Nineveh Governorate ranked first in the number of contracts for the past year.
The Ministry's Central Statistical Organization said in a report reviewed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the results of the statistics of buildings and constructions in the public sector for the year 2020 showed that there is a decrease in the number of enterprises by 3.20%, as it reached 551 enterprises compared to the year 2019, when the number reached 691 enterprises." Indicating that "the cost of projects for the year 2020 amounted to 7.2 trillion dinars compared to the year 2019, which cost 9.1 trillion dinars, registering a decrease of 5.29%."
He added that "Nineveh governorate ranked first in the number of contracting buildings and constructions projects referred, as it amounted to 135 companies at a cost of 59 billion out of the total number of contracts, which accounted for 24.5% during the year 2020, indicating that Baghdad governorate ranked second in the number of building and construction contracts, with 121 companies at a cost." 22.3 billion dinars, which constituted 21.9% of the total contracting cost.
And he continued, "Diyala governorate ranked third in terms of the number of contracts, as the number reached 65 enterprises, at a cost of 125 billion dinars, accounting for 11.8% of the total contracting total."
He pointed out that "the Ministry of Provincial Affairs ranked first in the implementation of building and construction contracts for the year 2020, as it implemented 300 projects for the year 2020, followed by the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works with 124 projects."
