{Political: Al Furat News} Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein chaired a meeting with the Iraqi delegation participating in the Summit on Climate Change {COP26} in Glasgow, which included representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Industry, Oil and Environment, in the federal government in addition to representatives of the Government of Kurdistan Region, and the meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the United Kingdom Jaafar Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr.
During the meeting, Hussein stressed, according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry, "Iraq's quest to enter a new environmental era and confront the repercussions of climate change through regional and international partnerships."
He referred to Iraq's accession to all UN climate-related agreements, including the 1992 United Nations Climate Change Agreement, the 2015 Paris Agreement, and the initiative to completely eliminate spontaneous gas flaring by 2030.
The twenty-sixth session of the Conference of the Parties is the most prominent international meeting on climate in order to limit global warming to 2°C and 1.5°C if possible, above pre-industrial levels, finalize the rules for implementing the Paris Agreement and address the issue of financial obligations of developed countries.
