    {Political: Al Furat News} The Iraqi Council of Representatives held today, Sunday, the first session of the fifth electoral cycle, devoted to taking the constitutional oath to members of the Council, in the presence of 325 deputies, and was elected as a speaker and two deputies.
    At the beginning of the session, Sirwan Abdullah, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, congratulated and welcomed the deputies on the occasion of their becoming a member of the Council and bearing the honor of serving the country and the Iraqi people. Legislative.
    The council recited Surat Al-Fatihah in sympathy for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq.
    After that, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani chaired the session, as he is the oldest winning member in age, according to the book of the Independent High Electoral Commission.
    In the same context, the deputies took the constitutional oath, marking the start of their duties in the fifth electoral cycle.
    Al-Mashhadani indicated during his speech at the session that the early elections produced a new and esteemed parliamentary group to be expressing the aspirations of the people and achieving the desired change, expressing his hope that the new parliament will be up to the responsibility and face the challenges and crises that the country is going through.
    Subsequently, Representative Ahmed al-Asadi submitted a letter to the president of the age, including the signatures and names of 88 deputies, considering them to be the most numerous bloc.
    As a result of Al-Mashhadani's apology due to a health condition, MP Khaled Al-Daraji chaired the session, as he was an old reserve after the apology of MP Amer Al-Fayez.
    Al-Daraji, the session chairman, announced the candidacy of MPs Muhammad Rikan Al-Halbousi and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani for the position of Speaker of Parliament.
    The Council elected Muhammad al-Halbousi as Speaker of the House of Representatives after obtaining 200 votes, compared to 14 votes for al-Mashhadani, while 14 votes were counted as invalid.
    The council voted to choose Hakim Al-Zamili as first deputy speaker of the council, by obtaining 182 votes, while MP Hamid Abbas Al-Shiblawy won 34 votes after Khaled Al-Daraji, the session chairman, announced their candidacy for the same position, while the invalid votes were 11 votes.
    In the same regard, the Assembly elected Shakhwan Abdullah Ahmed as Vice-President of the Assembly after obtaining 180 votes, compared to 33 votes for Representative Sarwa Abdel Wahed, in addition to recording 13 invalid votes.
    President Muhammad al-Halbousi gave a speech in which he expressed his great thanks to everyone who contributed to the electoral wedding, which resulted in the arrival of a group of new representatives and completed its constitutional activities by electing a speaker and two deputies, indicating that the Iraqis expect a lot from us to provide the best services to them, and we must correct many paths to restore the people’s confidence in the legislative authority. And we in the new session of the House of Representatives are nothing but a product of the demonstrations that took place in October 2019, appreciating the sacrifices of the security forces with all its names and the popular and clan mobilization, announcing the opening of the nomination for the position of President of the Republic in accordance with the constitutional timings.
    After that, Representative Hassan Al-Adhari submitted a letter bearing the names and signatures of the most numerous parliamentary bloc to the elected speaker of the parliament.
