Corruption and neglect stifle the vocabulary of the ration card

The ration card items are a basic food source for the majority of Iraqi families, because poverty and limited income are taking an additional bite from the vulnerable groups in society day after day. In return, corruption and lack of oversight gnaw on these humble vocabulary.
Citizens of the city of Mosul, complained about the “wasting” that the ration card items suffer from. Abu Yousef, a food agent (a shop for distributing ration card items), began his speech by saying, “Is a bottle of oil enough for the minister’s son for two months?”
He added, "Over the past year, I only distributed flour for two months. As for the rest of the materials, they did not exceed six rations, meaning half the annual ration for each family. Therefore, is it reasonable that one bottle of oil suffices for two months, while sugar has been reduced."
Abu Yousef stressed that "this suffering has continued over the past year, and nothing has changed with the beginning of this year."
The agent for foodstuffs, Fahd Kashmoula, also indicated that the first month of the current year has passed and he has not yet received the flour, and there are interruptions in the distribution, and the food rations are no longer sufficient.
He pointed out that "the poor suffer greatly from the rise in food prices due to the increase in the exchange rate of the US dollar against the dinar," noting that "the vocabulary of the ration card is not distributed regularly and there is great confusion and all this is borne by the ration card and the citizen who has become like a patient struggling with death."
The other food agent, Hazal Al-Zuhairi, also confirms that “people are suffering great suffering and have no trick in the face of the high prices. As for the food items, sugar has been reduced to one kilogram every two months, it is distributed once, meaning that the citizen’s share every day is 17 Just a gram of sugar.
He continued, "As for the year 2021, there were only six food rations throughout the year, which are sugar, rice, oil, and ten portions of flour. As for chickpeas (crushed) people sell it as animal feed because it is not suitable for human consumption, as for prices, the price of a bag of flour has reached to 35,000 Iraqi dinars.
As for the citizens' reactions, our reporter met with more than one citizen on the left and right sides of Mosul, and most of them were not satisfied with what was distributed to them.
One of the citizens, in a quick and fleeting comment that he did not even reveal his name because of his excitement, said, “I forgot the ration card and I no longer rely on anything distributed from it. I buy what I need monthly from public markets with my pension.”
While Azzam Taha, a vegetable seller, said that the meals distributed in the ration card are not enough, and he buys everything from public markets.
Such words were said by Saddam Riyad, a construction worker who lives on what he gets from the wages, and Riyad's wish was that he would receive a monthly sufficient amount of flour and rice to support his four children and his wife.
As for the government’s response, the Director of the Financial and Commercial Control Department, Ali Al-Shammari, said that “the citizen has received his share of 100%, which is 10 meals of flour, and six food baskets each for two months.”
He added, "This is what is intended for the citizen, and the distribution was complete during 2021, and this year the work will be in the same system as well."
As for the camps for the displaced, Al-Shammari stated, "Food baskets reach them in full, according to the timetables they have."
