The incident of the attack on a civil activist and a group of demonstrators in Babil Governorate sparked widespread popular anger in Iraq, as this incident witnessed, in the first of its kind, a sit-in by “representatives” near the site of the attack. Civil activist Dargham Majed sustained serious fractures and injuries while participating in a demonstration with a group of people near the house of Representative Suha al-Sultani; In a video circulating, Majed confirmed that he is recovering and vowed to return to the demonstration.
This incident did not go unnoticed, as representatives of the extension bloc, headed by MP Alaa Al-Rikabi, staged a sit-in near the site of the attack on Dargham Majid. A member of the Political Bureau of the Manar Al-Obeidi Extension Movement confirmed that the movement’s deputies are in an “open” sit-in until the arrest of the aggressors against the activist Dergham, in Al-Qasim district, Babil governorate.
Al-Obaidi said that, "Since Tuesday, representatives of the extension movement went to Al-Qasim district and met the director of the police of Babil Governorate, and informed him that the deputies were in an open sit-in in front of the judicial police station, until the arrest of the aggressors against activist Dargham." He added, "If the perpetrators of the attack are not arrested, we will demand the dismissal of the Babil Police Director," adding that "the deputies are still at the sit-in until the arrest warrants are issued."

Al-Obaidi indicated that the extension “demanded the deputy to apologize and absolve from this shameful act, and we are sure that the bloc to which the representative belongs will not accept the attack on an Iraqi citizen.” He stressed, "the need to extradite those who committed this attack and issue arrest warrants against them." In turn, the director of the office of the extension movement in Karbala, Diaa Al-Hindi, who is currently camping in Al-Qasim district, says that “Majed had organized a demonstration during the past two days regarding the alternative system and demanding a reduction in the dollar exchange rate, and the high prices,” adding that he aimed to convey his voice and demands. To 17 deputies in the province of Babil, and indeed some of them received Dergham warmly and received the demands from him. Al-Hindi recounts that when activist Dergham arrived at the house of Representative Suha Al-Sultani, "he and the demonstrators were subjected to shooting to disperse them, and what happened was that Dergham's protection attacked, and they severely beat him with sticks, sharp instruments and metal bars (statures)." It is noteworthy that activist Dergham is going through a critical stage, and his health condition is "unstable" as a result of the "assault" he was subjected to. For its part, the Babylon Police Command announced, yesterday, Wednesday, the opening of an investigation into the assault on 6 demonstrators, while confirming the arrest of one of those involved. And the leadership stated in a statement received by (Al-Mada), that “a comprehensive investigation has been opened to find out the circumstances of an attack on six protesters, including activist Dargham, who demonstrated last night, in the south of the governorate,” noting, that “initial information indicates, that the attack took place by shooting.” stones, sticks and live bullets. And she added, "The losses were limited to five protesters who were wounded with stones and sticks, and the sixth by a gunshot wound," explaining that "everyone was taken to a hospital in the governorate for treatment, and the activist Dergham's injury was the most severe among them.
