Yesterday, the Iraqi Communist Party opened its first activities on the occasion of the 88th anniversary of its founding, by organizing a symposium for free drawing, in the gardens of the Ummah Square in the center of the capital, Baghdad.
The event was attended by a large number of plastic artists and painters with a number of communists and their friends, including the party leadership. This event was organized in conjunction with the joys of our people on Nowruz.
Unique initiative
The plastic artist Sanaa Muhammad, who is one of the participants in the studio for "The People's Way", described the initiative as "unique of its kind", adding, "We can say that the Communist Party is always interested in these events and supports them. We are now in a place full of life, memories and the spirits of the rebellious youth.”
Muhammad spoke about her painting by saying: "My painting expresses the souls of the martyrs of the uprising and the party, as it flies and soars in the sky, and dreams of improving the country's conditions, change and salvation."
Hope is still there
While the plastic artist Ahmed Al-Majed said: “The Iraqi Communist Party always harnesses its energies to support creative youth in all areas of creativity, including painting, calligraphy, songs, poetry and music,” stressing “the need to continue these activities that contribute to the consolidation of the values of peace and harmony and send a message that hope is The desired change is still present.”
Concerning the exhibition, critic Jawad al-Zaidi told Tareq Al-Shaab, one of the contributors to the preparation of this free studio: “The symposium is an English name that means the practice of free drawing; As there is no specific subject, and each artist chooses his subject and style. Each participating artist has his own style, technique and technique.”
He added, "The ceremony was held on the occasion of the 88th anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi Communist Party, coinciding with the Nowruz and Women's Day feasts, and that the place was chosen because of its symbolism; Three important monuments are formed in it; In Al-Tayaran Square, a mural of Faeq Hassan, and in the middle of the nation’s garden there is the motherhood monument to Khaled Al-Rahhal, and in Tahrir Square the freedom monument to Jawad Selim, and this symbolism acquires its presence within the artists’ participation, as important incentives for this practice.
In the face of violence and cruelty
Artists with a long history of painting participated in the exhibition.
Al-Zaidi added, "The initiative is a reaction to the violence and cruelty that exists in reality and the Iraqi street, and this means that there is beauty and important spaces to receive these works, and it is remarkable that the soldiers holding the land in order to provide protection were also interested in the paintings, and they mediated the audience to watch the paintings and observe the painters how they work . We hope that such important events will be repeated at the level of painting and other aesthetic activities.”
