Baghdad/ Firas Adnan
The extension movement, one of the political forces emanating from the October uprising, renewed its refusal to participate in the next government, calling for making it temporary in order to present the budget bill and then prepare for early elections.
The extension movement rejected earlier calls by both the Sadrist movement and the coordination framework of the independents to form an independent government away from the blocs and political parties.
A member of the movement, Musaad Al-Rajhi, said, "The internal system of our movement requires not to engage with the traditional mechanisms of the political process, whether through parties or others."
Al-Rajhi continued, "It is the traditional mechanisms that call for consensus and not to adopt the project of the political majority and the opposition."
He explained, "The best foundation for parliamentary work is based on the presence of a majority that administers the government, and is opposed by an opposition that evaluates and monitors performance and diagnoses errors."
Al-Rajhi stated, "Our movement rejects consensus as it leads to the prevalence of corruption and prevents those responsible from being held accountable."
He pointed out, "According to the quota system, everyone will be a participant in public money and the acquisition of positions. However, it is absent to identify the negligent or the cause of failure, given that each party is trying to throw responsibility on the other."
Al-Rajhi stressed that "compliance is what made Iraq lag behind the rest of the world, and generated the popular anger that resulted in the October uprising."
He stressed, "Our rejection of consociationalism is a matter of principle that stemmed from the October uprising. Without this intifada, an extension movement would not have been formed."
Al-Rajhi pointed out that "our vision is that all the forces present in the political scene are traditional forces, and they have previous mechanisms that have witnessed electoral cycles since the first parliament formed after 2003."
He noted that "the extension movement had two options, either to achieve the majority or resort to the opposition, and when the results appeared that the number of our representatives were few, we decided to resort to the opposition."
Al-Rajhi added, "Our support for any government is linked to the fact that the Prime Minister and members of his cabinet are independent and do not hold another nationality, with the traditional blocs providing guarantees of non-interference."
He believed, "The traditional parties will not allow independents to form a government or have ministers without exposing them to political pressure."
Al-Rajhi continues, "The extension movement is not like the rest of the traditional political blocs that seized state resources and employed them for media goals and to achieve their personal interests."
He stressed, "Four initiatives that we put forward earlier and announced officially to public opinion that we will not be with the traditional parties in any consensus or government, and we will adopt the opposition aimed at correcting the political track."
Al-Rajhi stated, "One of the delayed initiatives was the call to dissolve Parliament with three tracks."
He continues, "These tracks are the formation of an independent government and its members pledge not to run for the upcoming elections, and that this government prepare the draft budget within a period of 45 days and calls for the implementation of the parties' law to exclude entities that have armed factions from the elections, hold the demonstrators' killers accountable, bring the corrupt to justice, and return looted money.”
Al-Rajhi concluded, "The blocs did not adopt any of these paths, and some independents have begun to become a tool in the hands of traditional parties, which we do not accept on ourselves."
For his part, the head of the movement's political bureau, Raed Al-Saleh, stated that "our position is with the supreme interest of the Iraqi people, and we have no intentions of allying with the coordination framework or the Sadrist movement."
Al-Saleh added, "The Iraqi people have become a victim of intransigence in political positions, and the blocs must make concessions for the sake of the Iraqi people."
He pointed out, “The movement with the formation of an interim government whose work will be for a period of time that prepares for early elections after the draft budget law is submitted,” noting that “the Iraqis refuse to return to quotas, and the House of Representatives has not performed its duties, and all it has done over the past months is to legislate two laws and elect its presidency. “.
The extension movement is one of the political forces emanating from the October uprising and participated in the elections for the first time in 2021 and won nine seats, five of them in Dhi Qar, two in Babil, a complex from Diwaniyah and another from Najaf
