During its meeting in Cairo at the level of energy ministers, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum expressed its deep concern over attempts to impose a ceiling on gas prices and change the pricing mechanism for political motives.

The ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum issued a statement today, Tuesday, in Cairo, in which it affirmed that the member states stressed the importance of coordination between them and their support for a clear and frank dialogue between producers and consumers.

The statement added that the market suffocation is expected to continue in the medium term, as most of the new projects will start production after 2025.

During the meeting, the members stressed the objectives of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum to support the permanent sovereignty of member states over their natural resources and their abilities to independently plan and manage sustainable and efficient natural gas resources and develop them in an environmentally conscious manner, use and preserve them for the benefit of their people through cooperation with neighboring countries without hindrances.

They also stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination among member states and their support for a clear and frank dialogue between producers, consumers and all relevant parties with the aim of ensuring the security of both supply and demand, in addition to ensuring transparency, fairness and openness in gas markets.

The ministerial meeting discussed at length the multi-dimensional crisis that includes the economy, energy, trade, health, environment, and geopolitical conditions, as the meeting focused on the rising risks of pessimistic economic forecasts, unprecedented inflation in decades, stifling financial conditions, and supply chain crises.

The attendees emphasized that geopolitical tensions in addition to the economic restrictions imposed on some countries made expectations more ambiguous, and that the negative effects on the standard of living of individuals had become real and tangible, and their impact was greater on poor countries, especially developing countries.

The meeting emphasized that the natural gas market is undergoing drastic changes in terms of the quantities pumped, market conditions, and arrangements for contracts and investments.

They noted that gas positions are experiencing severe fluctuations, stressing that the prices of long-term gas contracts are more stable and predictable.

In their statement, they expressed their deep concern about attempts to change the gas pricing mechanism, manage market performance risks, and impose price ceilings with political motives. whether.

The forum participants pointed out that the lack of investments since 2015 due to the decline in natural gas prices and misleading calls to stop investing in natural gas projects, resulted in an imbalance in supply and demand, which exacerbated geopolitical tensions and Europe is currently the preferred destination for LNG shipments to compensate for the quantities that It was lowered pumped into pipelines.

In this context, they stressed the need to secure energy supplies and the increasing demand for it, and to continue cooperation to protect the basic gas infrastructure and enhance the ability to confront natural disasters, technological accidents and human threats, such as the harmful use of information and communication technologies.

The importance of developing basic energy infrastructure to ensure the free flow of gas and the stability of global gas markets, and to condemn any deliberate attacks to harm them, was also stressed.

The meeting was attended by energy ministers and senior officials from member states Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela and observers Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mozambique, Norway, Peru, and the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Arab Emirates.
