The Sadrist movement, led by Muqtada al-Sadr, responded, on Sunday evening, to the Iranian Parliament’s demand for the leader of the movement to apologize after he tweeted about the term “Arabian Gulf.”
The leader of the movement, Issam Hussein, said, "The process of demanding an apology takes place in terms of offense, that is, there is a person who has offended a country, so there is a demand to apologize for this offense," noting that the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, "tweets about the Gulf Championship and the tweet is devoid of any offense." And he did not tweet about international maps or designations regarding the seas and other international issues, and he said the Arab Gulf, because all countries participating in this championship are Arabs only.
And Hussein stated, “The Iranian Parliament’s demand for an apology from Al-Sadr is because of the Iranian annoyance with Iraq’s rapprochement towards the Arab world through the Gulf Championship, especially since football may later be transferred to economics, politics, and other issues, and this matter disturbed Iran, as it fears for its influence in Iraq and its political and commercial work in Iraq, due to its rapprochement with the Arab world, and that is why it found al-Sadr’s tweet as an excuse to launch this campaign to push Iraq away from the Arab community.
Today, Sunday, the Iranian parliament attacked the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, and the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, in language that seemed “arrogant” against the backdrop of statements about the Gulf Cup in its 25th edition hosted by Basra, and in which they mentioned the term “Arabian Gulf”, which Iran strongly objects to. .
The Iranian Football Association objected to naming the championship as the “Arabian Gulf” instead of the “Persian Gulf”, and submitted a protest note to the President of the International Federation of Football in this regard.
