Yesterday, Saturday, the Ministry of Electricity announced the imminent signing of agreements with international companies in the field of energy production.
The ministry stated, in a statement received by (Al-Mada), that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani directed that the contracts of the Ministry of Electricity be with sober international companies.”
The statement added, "The ministry is preparing for this transformation and developing strategic plans to implement it."
He pointed out that "the coming period will witness signing with major international companies in the field of electricity."
In addition, the ministry’s spokesman, Ahmed Musa, said, “The prime minister instructed the concerned authorities to provide plots of land and overcome obstacles to constructing clean energy stations in the country.”
Moussa continued, "The ministry has high coordination with local governments in the governorates and municipal departments, according to the Prime Minister's directive to establish stations."
He denied, “there is a delay in (clean) energy projects,” noting that “the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, discussed with the World Bank clean energy projects, and commitment to the decisions of climate summits, with the need for international banks to be interested in financing these projects.”
Moussa added, "These projects require financial closure procedures, financing them from international banks, and allocating plots of land."
And he explained, “The Minister of Electricity demanded, during his meeting with the World Bank, to hold continuous workshops to overcome any difficulties regarding the implementation of these projects and their obligations with Iraq, and urged international banks to implement projects and accelerate financial closure procedures, and finance energy projects.”
Moussa continues, “Clean energy projects, within the ministry’s medium-term plans, will be ready within two to three years.”
Moussa went on to say, "The ministry has started from now on a set of procedures related to examining the soil, identifying plots of land, and signing legal advisory contracts with these companies."
