    (Baghdad: Al-Furat News) The Minister of Electricity, Luay Khatib, in his office at the ministry on Monday, discussed with US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Toler, ways of joint cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy.
    "The status of the Iraqi national electricity system and the production sector projects under construction, including the Samawah and Nasiriyah stations currently under construction by General Electric Company, will add 1,500 megawatts to the system," Khateeb said. 
    Minister Al-Khatib also discussed with the US ambassador the status of the province of Basra, improving its energy system, increasing quantities of production, and completing the projects of transformer and secondary stations and transmission lines. 
    As explained by the Minister of Electricity, the road map set by the Ministry to develop the electricity system in Iraq, which will result in a series of contracts with major international companies. 
    For his part, the US ambassador expressed his country's readiness to support the energy sector in Iraq
