During the past few days, the Iraqis expected that the parliament would hold an "extraordinary session" to discuss the crisis of the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar and the accompanying rise in the prices of foodstuffs and consumer goods, which cast a dark shadow over the lives of citizens, but that session did not take place despite the collection of (83) signatures from The members of the House of Representatives accepted to hold it, due to the “refusal” of the Speaker of Parliament to summon the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq and add the paragraph in the agenda for last Saturday and the Parliament session to be held today, Tuesday, which prevented the holding of the dollar crisis session to remain postponed until further notice.
And a member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Representative Hadi Al-Salami, stated in an exclusive interview with “Al-Sabah” that “the reason for not including the discussion of the dollar exchange rate crisis in the agenda of the parliament session that was held last Saturday or the session to be held today, Tuesday, is the refusal of the Speaker of Parliament to do so.” Despite the fact that 83 signatures were collected in accordance with Article 58 of the constitution, paragraph one, as well as in accordance with the articles of the House of Representatives internal system.
He explained, "We did not obtain approval during the legislative recess to hold an emergency extraordinary session and to host the governor of the Central Bank to discuss the reasons for the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar. The Central Bank in its private office yesterday, Sunday.
