A member of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, Ali al-Mashkoor, called for the need to grant Basra its right because of the problems that its citizens are exposed to as a result of oil extraction.
Al-Mashkoor told (Baghdad Today) that "Basra gives a lot to the budget due to the oil extracted from it," noting that "we do not forget that most of the licensing rounds started from its lands."
He explained that "its citizens are exposed to great damage due to environmental influences," considering that "with the reading of the budget in Parliament, the Finance Committee must grant the province its right in this budget."
