The Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee called for a final settlement of the file of appointing Iraqi ambassadors abroad, calling for finding a transparent mechanism and method in this aspect.
A member of the committee and head of the “Emtidad” parliamentary bloc, Haider Al-Salami, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Diplomatic moves are present at the government level, regionally and internationally, which is a positive indicator, but the final evaluation of the government’s performance in this aspect is the results that appear at the diplomatic level.” and the level of building relations with countries.
He added, "Iraq plays a pivotal role in building its relations, in addition to its role in converging views between the countries of the region," noting that "Iraq should benefit from global experiences in convergence, especially the convergence of views between the countries of the region, and how Iraq is strong and has a stronger influence." among the countries of the region.
He stressed that "the government should invest all available methods to strengthen Iraq's relations with surrounding countries and the world, and develop a deliberate plan to improve the state of foreign relations and consolidate diplomatic work in ways that depend on modernity and development, and Iraq must be among the influential countries, not the affected ones."
And Al-Salami indicated that "the issue of appointing Iraqi ambassadors abroad is still unclear, and the committee will follow up on this issue until it is finally resolved and under the controls of the plan set for the advancement of diplomacy," calling for "dealing with the ambassadors' file to be transparent, because the ambassador is a difficult task that requires influence.” He concluded by saying: “In conclusion, the ambassador represents Iraq and its position in the countries of the world.”
