The economic expert, Diaa Al-Mohsen, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the authorities of northern Iraq were forced to come to Baghdad and sign a memorandum of understanding regarding the export of oil, while the decision of the international arbitration committee was considered as “revealing” Kurdistan’s weakness in covering the expenses of the Kurdish people.
Al-Mohsen said in a press interview seen by “Takadam” that “the decision of the arbitration committee in Paris prevented the authorities of northern Iraq from exporting oil, which was considered a point of pressure on the Turkish side to abide by this decision,” noting that “the Kurds have become exposed from this side so that they cannot Covering the financial expenses required by the Kurdish people.
He added, "The OPEC Plus decision to reduce oil production also has a role in this agreement, especially as it pushed the northern authorities to two options, either to adhere to all decisions or to be pressured by the Kurdish people, given that the region's exports belong to the government and the Kurds will not benefit from them."
The economist explained, "The Kurds had to come to Baghdad and make an agreement with the federal government regarding the export of oil in northern Iraq through the national SOMO company."
