A member of the House of Representatives, Basem Khashan, revealed that the new tax that will be imposed by the "Zain Iraq" mobile phone company on the wages of managing the chip, estimated at 3 billion and 500 million dinars, will go mostly to the company.
Khashan said to "Al-Sabah": "The taxes that will be imposed on the management of the chip by the (Zain Iraq) mobile phone company, the majority of which go to its treasury and not to the state," noting that "this reveals that what is being talked about of selling mobile phone chips It is completely unreal, which indicates that a large part of the imposed taxes go to the company.”
And Zain Iraq for mobile services issued a statement in which it stated to its subscribers that “starting from next May, our company will apply monthly fees for the SIM account management service of 350 Iraqi dinars, which will be deducted on a monthly basis and will be applied to all subscribers,” and indicated that “this The change came to pay the fees of the regulatory segment to ensure the continuation of other services normally, including free calling on the various communication applications via the Internet, and to address inflation rates, in addition to increasing the volume of data consumption more than what it was in previous years, while the average speed enjoyed by subscribers doubled.
Al-Sabah tried to obtain a comment from Zain on the matter, but the company refused to do so.
For his part, academic and economic researcher Ali Dadoush estimated that the value of those taxes imposed on citizens would reach 3 billion and 500 million dinars per month.
Daadush said to Al-Sabah: “If we multiply the amount of tax imposed on the segment estimated at 350 dinars per month by the number of subscribers, which is close to 10 million, then the figure could be 3 billion and 500 million dinars per month that is added to the company, not to mention that this tax is deducted from the subscriber in exchange for services.” It is provided by the company, while if we notice it, we find it below the standard and also requires paying an amount for it,” as he put it.
Dadoush called on "the government to intervene and prevent such a procedure, or to boycott the company and launch a popular campaign not to use the company's service for a week, which can be extended if it does not back down."
Mystery surrounds this file until now, as local platforms and media announced that the head of the Media and Communications Authority, Ali Al-Moayyed, intervened to stop the decision of the “Zain” telecom company to impose new financial fees to manage its user segments in Iraq, while the authority did not provide any statement in this regard on its website. the official.
