    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday, energy expert Kovand Sherwani revealed the main reason why Iraq has not been able to find an alternative to Iranian gas over the past years.
Sherwani told "Baghdad Today" that: "Iraq could have produced gas instead of importing it from Iran, but mismanagement and the presence of internal and external political will in order to prevent Iraq from being a gas producer, and this is for the economic benefit of Iran."
And he indicated that "there is a current government tendency for Iraq to be a gas producer during the next few years, and this is in order to dispense with importing Iranian gas, which costs the state millions of dollars, but it is not excluded that the internal and external political will will be an obstacle to this trend."
Last Tuesday, Iraq and Iran signed an agreement in Baghdad, according to which the imported Iranian gas, which operates power stations, will be exchanged for Iraqi crude oil and black oil.
The Prime Minister's Office said, "The agreement was reached after negotiations that lasted for several days, in which delegations and technical and technical committees from both sides participated."
This agreement comes within the framework of the government's effort to address the crisis in the supply of gas that powers power stations, and avoid financing problems and the complications of US sanctions that prevented the continuity of payment of import requirements. .
Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani described the agreement as "important with the Iranian side to end the problem completely, it is within the official and legal contexts, and within our commitment to oil production according to OPEC's quota."
In his speech, he pointed out that "in light of the agreement, the import of Iranian gas has been resumed, and 10 million cubic meters have been released, and it is hoped that it will escalate, until the contracted amount is completed, which enables the Ministry of Electricity to operate all electrical stations."
Today, Minister of Electricity Ziyad Fadel announced an increase in energy production to 23,500 megawatts, after returning part of the Iranian gas supplied, noting that "the processing hours will increase with the increase in the quantities of gas."
