Today, Friday, the Parliamentary Oil, Energy and Natural Resources Committee detailed the latest findings of the special committees to resolve the oil and gas law.
A member of the committee, Bassem Naghimesh Al-Gharibawi, said, "The oil and gas law is one of the important laws that has been stalled for two decades in a rentier country that relies entirely on oil and 90 percent of its revenues."
He added, "This disruption is a great loss for the country and also a cause of conflicts that are still going on for this moment between the center and the region."
Al-Gharibawi added, "The government, in its ministerial curriculum, set a time limit for the completion of this law and set it at six months, but 8 months have passed and the law has not been completed until this moment."
He stressed, “There is a real intention and endeavor to legislate this law, and joint committees have been formed from the federal government, and they are engaged in discussions and frequent meetings.”
And he continued: “From a technical point of view related to the law, the committees reached almost agreement on it, and some of them did not reach agreement, and it is from Article Five to Article 12 of the draft law.”
And he stated, "There are also political aspects related to the law, and they must be resolved through a political agreement."
He pointed out, "The formation of a ministerial committee whose mission is to receive the final results of the technical committees that are working now."
And he stressed, “There is a real intention to legislate this law and move towards facilitating its passage.”
