The Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Industry and Trade expressed, on Sunday (August 13, 2023), its stand with the procedures of the government and the Central Bank of Iraq in fighting speculators at the dollar exchange rate.
A statement by the parliamentary media department, received by "Baghdad today," said that the committee "hosted Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, Governor of the Central Bank, and discussed with him the rise in the dollar and the mechanisms used by the bank to control the exchange rate, in addition to the issue of the central reserve of hard currency."
The meeting discussed, according to the statement, "the subject of the electronic platform for foreign transfers, and the Parliamentary Economy Committee confirmed its stand with the measures of the government and the Central Bank in combating exchange rate speculators."
The committee stressed "taking into account the international standards by which the central bank operates that cannot exceed it."
It called for "the need to make a greater effort to stabilize the exchange rate and control ports, currency speculators and illegal trade."
In recent days, the Central Bank of Iraq has issued a set of measures and instructions to adjust the dollar exchange rate after it rose in the "parallel market" to more than 1500 dinars.
The bank has promised to issue a new package of decisions it says will contribute to lowering the dollar’s exchange against the dinar.
