The Ministry of Oil intends to proceed with the process of investing gas in many fields, confirming its aspiration to add 200 “mqmq” million standard cubic feet before the end of this year to the total amount of gas produced.
Iraq is actively seeking to eliminate the gas waste crisis and work to provide it permanently, as the Ministry of Oil signed an agreement worth 27 billion dollars with the French company Total, aiming to increase oil production and enhance the country's ability to produce electricity through the implementation of four projects for oil, gas and renewable energy. .
The media spokesman for the ministry, Assem Jihad, told Al-Sabah: The ministry is continuing its continuous efforts to invest associated and free gas, and there are strenuous efforts to reinvest the gas in the Akkas, Mansouriya and Siba fields after the suspension of the first companies that obtained the investment entitlement, which is the Korean Cogas Company and a consortium of Turkish and Kuwaiti companies. .
Jihad added, “The gas sector in Iraq inherited a heavy legacy, was neglected, and faced abnormal conditions as a result of successive crises and wars that led to the abortion of many projects in this field, and caused damage to oil facilities in general,” pointing out that gas investment operations, whether free or associated It needs modern technology, large investments, a safe environment, political stability, legislation and laws.
Jihad explained that despite these difficulties, the Ministry of Oil was able, in 2010, to form the Basra Gas Company, in cooperation with Shell and Mitsubishi, to invest up to 2,000 cubic meters of gas from the south of Basra. To reach an effective production that exceeded its program by the limits of 1000 cubic feet, and it is now producing 1000 million standard cubic feet per day of gas, and it is continuing in this framework. Less than a month ago, a station was opened to add 200 cubic feet, and at the end of this year another 200 million standard cubic feet will be added. .
With regard to other projects for the investment of free gas, the official spokesman explained that the Ministry of Oil offered the Akkaz field, Al-Mansuriya and Al-Saiba to investment again after the Korean company Kukas left the Akkaz field and the consortium of Turkish and Kuwaiti companies in the Al-Mansuriya field, stressing that the Ministry has serious attempts to communicate with discreet international companies to restore Investing gas in these stalled fields, pointing out at the same time that the Ministry of Oil has implemented ambitious projects for years to invest in gas in the Halfaya field in Maysan Governorate, which will provide 300 million standard cubic feet, and shortly before the Halfaya power station was supplied with large quantities of gas from this field. In addition to a project to invest gas from the fields of Dhi Qar Governorate, which will provide 200 million standard cubic feet per day.
