    Baghdad - Nas
Despite the limited size of the Iraqi seaport, the competent authorities are studying many solutions for the success of the "Development Road" project, through the construction of the "submerged tunnel", which will connect the port of Faw with the land road in Umm Qasr.

The Director General of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, Farhan Al-Fartousi, announced the continuation of work on the "submerged tunnel" project day and night, stressing during a night visit that the project's completion had reached advanced levels, through work 24 hours a day.

Al-Fartousi added, "All work in the tunnel project is taking place at an escalating pace, and the achieved work exceeds the planned one."

The Ministry of Transport, the entity responsible for the implementation of this project, is optimistic about the possibility of completing the project and according to the timetables. The director of the media office of the Ministry, Maitham Al-Safi, revealed that work is taking place at night to overcome the problem of high temperatures.

Al-Safi said: "The submerged tunnel is one of the five port projects of Al-Faw, and its length is 2400 meters, while work is underway in two axes." Approaches to the entrances and exits of the tunnel from the Fao and Umm Qasr sides, amounting to 58 pieces, some of which have been completed.

He continued, "The project as a whole is concrete work, and the completion rate has reached 40%," and stressed that "the work is continuing and there is no stopping despite the high temperatures." : "The work is continuing according to the plans that have been set, and according to timelines that we are keen on."

The "submerged tunnel" project appears to be an absolute necessity, due to the nature of the land in the area, which impedes the movement of vehicles with heavy loads.

The economist, Safwan Qusay, pointed out, "The necessity of linking the port of Faw with the Umm Qasr road through the submerged tunnel, due to the nature of the soil." He added, "This project is nearing completion, and the company has succeeded in placing concrete structures inside the water to create the submerged tunnel."

He continued, "The project indicates the possibility of starting the investment of the port of Faw and linking it to the land road," and pointed out that "one of the challenges that faced the investment of the port of Faw is the nature of the land due to the sand dunes and soft land," and stressed that "the completion of this tunnel will contribute to the operation of the port of Faw." He described it as "an architectural challenge that the executing company succeeded in overcoming."

Qusai concluded by saying, "The road will become passable through the process of linking the port of Faw with the Umm Qasr road."
