Parliament: The Private Education Law regulates the work of private universities

The Parliamentary Education Committee has high hopes for the draft law on private education, which is usually a draft of important laws under study to control the work of private universities with conditions and standards that impose special infrastructure and teaching staff and determine their association with the Ministry of Education.
Committee member Firas Al-Maslamawi told Al-Sabah: “The committee held five meetings regarding the private education law, during which it hosted experts on the subject, as it is an important law and needs amendment, especially with regard to the rights of the student, teacher, and employee, in addition to providing the infrastructure.”
Al-Maslamawi added, "Sufficient areas will be required to build private educational institutions of approximately 50 dunums for the university, and the law will grant three years for each university to adapt to the new conditions regarding operating universities, and it will not be allowed to open an institution under the name (college)," noting that "the law It will focus on applying for admission to a university that has complete infrastructure in terms of space and teaching staff, with the inclusion of several conditions regarding the Ministry of Higher Education as the supervisory authority.
And the deputy continued, "The law is still proposed by the Parliamentary Education Committee until now, and it is under amendment, so that we can start submitting it after the completion of the government projects," noting that "the private education law will take its role after the advisory offices law, which will be voted on, and the law of the Ministry of Higher Education."
For his part, committee member Muhammad Qutayba said, in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "The draft law has reached advanced stages, as all paragraphs have been amended and the previous defect has been amended, which was in the interest of investors," pointing out that "the draft clarified the identity of the owner With regard to the official authorities, a board of trustees has also been created to organize the work of private colleges and develop their direct relationship with the Ministry of Education.
Qutayba added, "Private colleges are administratively and financially independent, and the amounts cannot be determined by the executive authority, which is a matter that follows the labor market, as the committee believes that it is with setting standards for competition between universities to accept students, who are the ones who ultimately choose between them
