Shafaq News/ The President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, confirmed on Wednesday the region’s commitment to the security agreement concluded between Baghdad and Tehran, which stipulates the disarmament of Kurdish groups and parties opposed to Iran and present on the territory of the region, expressing his opinion that there is no justification for launching a military operation against those groups.
The region's president's statements were made on the sidelines of his meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, who is on a visit to the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.
Nechirvan Barzani told reporters, including a Shafaq News Agency correspondent, that there is an agreement signed between Iraq and Iran, adding, "We in the Kurdistan Region and as part of Iraq are committed to this agreement, and we do not want the region to be a source of threat to any of our neighboring countries."
He added that within this framework and in full cooperation and coordination with Baghdad, important steps have been taken, and we hope that these steps will prevent any security and military problem from occurring.”
