Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Waad al-Qaddu, told “Baghdad Today”: The Iraqi constitution was clear in prohibiting the presence of any activities hostile to neighboring countries emanating from the country’s territory to prevent any crises or problems that negatively reflect on the security scene.
He pointed out that "there is an agreement between Baghdad, Tehran, and the Kurdistan region on specific points to address the issue of the Iranian opposition present in the region, the most prominent points of which are disarmament and switching to a civilian path under protection, on the condition that it does not carry out any military or security actions or activities against Iran."
Al-Qaddo stated, "Proceeding with the implementation of the agreement because it is the most appropriate option to prevent any escalation that does not serve the region as a whole," noting that "security and stability are an utmost necessity in Iraq."
Security cooperation between Iraq and Iran
For his part, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said: Security cooperation between Iraq and Iran is based on the Iraqi constitution, noting that the constitution “does not allow any group of Iraqi lands to be exploited to attack other countries.”
Hussein indicated during his visit to Tehran that "members of groups opposed to Iran will be transferred to camps under the supervision of the United Nations," stressing that "his country seeks to disarm Iranian opponents in Iraq."
He pointed to "the existence of cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil and their emphasis on the necessity of implementing the joint security agreement," adding that "the Iraqi government is committed to it to achieve its ultimate goal and disarm the Iranian Kurdish opposition."
On (August 29, 2023), an informed source revealed the existence of an alternative plan that includes transferring the headquarters of Iranian Kurdish opposition factions from the border areas with Iran to camps and camps within the region.
