The Ministry of Justice revealed the existence of a draft law for minors who lost their money due to the inflation that occurred in the 1990s.
The ministry's official spokesman, Kamel Amin Hashem, said, "The new draft law for the care of minors takes into account the requirements of the stage of changes that occurred after 2003."
He added, "The law focused on an important indicator, related to the existence of problems for minors who lost their money as a result of inflation since the 1990s, when the value of the Iraqi dinar decreased, and the previous regime at the time was unable to address this matter."
He stated that "the new project values the minors' money at the price of gold or the dollar at the time," noting that "all of this happens after the Ministry of Finance approves the compensation process."
Hashem pointed out that “the project has been included at the present time, but it depends on the position of the Ministry of Finance, the Legal Committee in the House of Representatives, and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers,” pointing out “the need to focus on following up on the issue of care and the conditions of children in schools as they are missing one or both parents, and therefore the department Caring for minors is not just to manage money, but also to address their social problems.”
