    Information / Baghdad...
On Monday, the Ministry of Oil clarified the contents of its plan to achieve self-sufficiency in fuel, while explaining the reasons for the scarcity in the previous period, stressing that local refineries meet 50 percent of the actual need for fuel.
The Undersecretary for Distribution Affairs, Ali Maaraj, told the official agency and its follower, “Al-Maalouma”, that “the distribution sector is committed to providing gasoline, gas oil, liquid gas, and white oil, and the shortage that occurs sometimes is the result of confusion in planning and transportation.”
He added, "There was a shortage a while ago due to the delayed arrival of imported gasoline, as our refineries meet 50% of the local need and the import process is done through the National Oil Marketing Company (SOMO)."
He continued, "Sometimes there is confusion in the import process during the passage of oil tankers at sea and weather conditions, as well as in the docking and customs process, and then their arrival is delayed for 7 days, and the problem has been avoided at the present time by enhancing imports."
He pointed out, "The Ministry seeks to end the recurrence of such cases by strengthening national production, as we own several refineries, including the Karbala refinery with a capacity of 140 thousand barrels per day, and production entered gradually. If it operates at full capacity, it will produce 9 million liters of gasoline, covering between 30-35%." of local need.
He stressed, "There is ongoing work to add more refining units in the northern and southern refineries, as well as plans to establish refineries within the Ministry of Oil's investment plan. Therefore, we seek to cover the total need and achieve self-sufficiency in gasoline, kerosene, and white oil through these plans." Ended 25 n
